Case
Outer and inner case silver, openwork and elaborately decorated. Inner case with rear bell and slide at the rim with engraving: "Wanmanes truck so repudieres" (If you press it, it repeats).

Silver, champlevé, inlaid radial Roman hours, central alarm disc with Arabic numerals, blued steel hands.
Movement
Full plate movement, applied, engraved, florally pierced decorations, chain/fusee, 3 geometrically engraved barrels for striking and alarm train, 2 hammers, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance.

The back of the case is adorned with a striking repoussé motif showing Prometheus surrounded by trophies of war. Sound holes filled with volutes and rocailles decorate the edge. The edge of the inner case is openwork and extensively ornamented with acanthus scrolls, volutes, mythical creatures and a mascaron.


Johannes Beitelrock was born circa 1700; he set up his own business around 1726 in Augsburg. High quality carriage clocks and watches by Beitelrock are known. An astronomical clock made by him, today resides at the Kunstgewerbe Museum Prag. Beitelrock married on October 7, 1728 and died on May 25, 1758.
