This precision pendulum clock made by Riefler in Nesselwang is designated as type A³, a standard that was used almost unchanged from 1913 to 1965, when the production was eventually discontinued. According to the sales books, the clock was delivered with pendulum no. 3476 and mechanical adjustment system through small extra weights and aneroid compensator. At the time, a pendulum clock with this scope of delivery cost around DM 50,000, which was roughly equivalent to the cost of a plot of land with a detached house.
The clock is in magnificent condition, which is obviously partly due to the fact that the Riefler clocks were produced fairly recently.
This is a fantastic treasure for all lovers of precision pendulum clocks who appreciate the outstanding Riefler technology even when it comes without a long history of observatory service.
