Ludovicus Theodor Müller
An Augsburg equatorial sundial with original morocco case

The sundial comes with an octagonal leather-covered case with a silk inside. The inside of the lid features an inset 45 mm round metal disc "ELEVATIO POLI", on which the pole heights for 26 German and European cities and the signature "LT Müller Augs 48 Gr" are inscribed.
In his book "Meister der Uhrmacherkunst (masters of watchmaking)", 2nd edition, Wuppertal 2010, Jürgen Abeler refers to engineer Ludovicus Theodor Müller as a very productive maker of sundials and compasses in Augsburg. Ludovicus Theodor Müller was born circa 1710 in Saalfeld/Saxony. He created mainly square, rectagonal and octagonal sundials with leather cases. They usuallly came with German or French language instructions. Müller's work is owned by various museums and private collections. Ludovicus Theodor Müller died in 1770.
