An exquisite small carriage watch in almost original condition. The design of the flat movement is sophisticated and innovative. It features numerous bearings with steel plates and an early rack and pinion lever escapement with six teeth, which swings the balance at 2.5 revolutions. The hour and quarter hours strike on two hammers, two others are present for the release the minute repeater (when the pendant is pushed) and a fifth hammer sounds the alarm (which is not in working order now). To emphasise the beautiful sound of the striking mechanism the silver case features a tendril of fine ornamental slits near the edge. The silver dome with three winding slots is ornamented with an engraved bouquet of flowers. The dial has three subsidiary dials for date, day of the week with corresponding planet and moon age as well as a small second at 3 o’clock. The design demands that the consecutive days of the week face each other. The watch comes with a round leather-covered case. This is truly a rare collector’s piece with an early minute repeater and an escapement type we have not seen before!
