Opening the back cover reveals the applied rack striking mechanism with mirror-polished steel levers is visible along with the three-armed ring balance with the evenly moving escapement wheel. When the repeater is released, two hammers strike a pair of clay gongs that wind around the movement. When this highly elegant pocket watch was created, the focus was very much on keeping the timepiece as flat as possible, which meant that movement with balance and barrel only had half as much room as usual. The remaining half houses the mirror polished parts of the rake striking mechanism.
