In 1992 Audemars Piguet commissioned Jörk Hysek to design leather straps for the Royal Oak models. Hysek consequentially revised the watch case and added two curved lugs. The first Royal Oak Offshore models, reference 25770 with leather straps were launched in1996. They were taken from the catalogue in 2005 to be replaced by the Royal Oak Offshore chronographs 25940 (2001), 26020 (2004) and 26170 (with metal bracelet or leather strap), where the leather or rubber straps were fitted with pins instead of lugs.
For this Royal Oak Offshore chronograph reference 26020 Audemars Piguet chose an impressive satin-finished steel case measuring 42 millimetres in diameter. The screwed-in hexagonal crown with engraved AP logo and the two round pushers on the case are coated with blue caoutchouc. The shimmering blue dial features a powerful "méga tapisserie" pattern in the centre, slate grey counters and an inner bezel with tachy scale. To ensure easy readability, the numerals and the Royal Oak-hands are filled with luminous material.
