<br>Als in der zweiten Hälfte der 1970er Jahre zunehmend kleinere Uhren in Mode kamen, befanden sich die von Gerald Genta entworfenen Luxus-Sportuhren im XL-Format in einer schwierigen Marktposition. IWC gab dem Trend nach und brachte Anfang der 1980er Jahre die Ingenieur SL als erfolgreiches Midsize Modell mit einem Durchmesser von 34 mm heraus und behielt das Mittelformat für 20 Jahre bei. Weil diese Modelle neben den "Jumbo SL" Modellen aus der Mitte der 1970er Jahre eher schmächtig wirkten, wurden sie von spöttischen Zungen denn auch prompt auf den Namen "Skinny" getauft.<br>Quelle: www.moeb.ch.

<br>When smaller-sized watches became en vogue in the late 1970s, the "XL"-size luxury sports watches designed by Gerald Genta were suddenly in a difficult position in the market. IWC bowed to the trend and launched the 34 mm Ingenieur SL as a successful mid-size model in the early 1980s – they stuck to this format for the next 20 years.
