Jean Pierre (III) Peugeot (1896-1966) took over leadership of the company from his father Robert in 1929. He held the position of company president until 1964 and remained honorary president of the S.A. des Automobiles Peugeot, until his death. The company was founded in 1896 and traced back to a workshop for bicycles established by Armand Peugeot in 1895. In 1896 a Peugeot was registered in Vienna as the first mass production petrol engine.
