In the late 1990s the trends favoured impressive, overlarge objects. SUVs became popular and the watch market was partial to large timepieces such as the Panerai or the Royal Oak Offshore, which both came in imposing 42 mm sizes. Within a century the average diameter of the watches seemed to explode and exceeded 40 mm, or even 50 mm in some cases.
The classic Royal Oak was part of this trend. In 2005 the top model of the range 15300 (calibre 3120, central second) replaced model 14790. At the time the standard size was 39 mm. In 2012 the Royal Oak reference 15400 came on the market with a size of 41 mm, the largest of the Royal Oak models. It is breathtakingly beautiful and even in this large size the watch retains a harmonic and balanced design. The black "grand tapisserie" pattern on the dial is in perfect harmony with the red gold case. Today this is one of the most coveted models on the market.
