Movement and calendar are attached to the free running compensation pendulum, which is mounted to an upside-down "Y" brass rack sitting on a marble base. The clock has two enamel chapter rings; the upper one displays hours and minutes, the lower one, labelled "Invenit", shows date, month, signs of the zodiac and decimal time.


Verneuil is known as an outstanding clockmaker and worked in Paris at Rue du Contrat Social around 1806; around 1815 he he worked at Rue Faubourg Saint Martin. He was particularly famous for his precision table regulators. The quality of Verneuil's work is extraordinary.
