The "Beaubourg" is the two-colour version of the classic "Elysée". The clock has a gilded and rhodium-plated polished case and a round rhodium-plated dial with gilt Arabic numerals and indexes; it is the direct successor of the Atmos V "Classic", calibre 526 dating from the 1950s as well as the "Classic" calibre 540 range dating from 1984.
The Atmos (for atmospheric clock) takes its energy from from the expansion and contraction of a capsule filled with ethyl chloride gas that responds to changes in temperature and barometric pressure. The produced energy winds the mainspring. According to the makers of the clock, a temperature difference of 1 Kelvin creates a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.
