Judging from the 18 K decorative case and the elaborate dial the watch was probably made for the American market, which was at the time the key market of the Assmann company. The engraving "J. Assmann Dresden" on the gold dome and the plate supports this notion. At the time US law required that the provenance of the watch was stated. As Glashütte was still unknown at the time, both A. Lange & Cie. and J. Assmann signed their export pieces "Dresden".
