It was probably a show of appreciation, when this early verge pocket watch movement dating from the Renaissance era was remodeled into a table clock and fitted with an openwork domed case lid.
The walls of the oval case are openwork and ornamented with tendrils and serpents. There are two ring loops on the sides for the additional option of carrying the watch on a waist chain. The hinged lid has an oval opening in the centre, which is also the centre of an openwork star with points ending in flower-filled crescents surrounded by tendrils. The back is engraved with a round medallion, filled with pomegranate fruit and petals.
