The watch factory A. Eppner & Co. was founded by Eduard Eppner (1812-1887). Together with his brother Albert he started a clock and watchmaking apprenticeship in 1828, training with the oldest of the three Eppner brothers, Wilhelm in La Chaux-de-Fonds, where Wilhelm at the time ran a manufactory trading as Eppner & Co., specialising in church clocks and controllers. In 1835, Eduard Eppner established his own company in Halle. In 1852 he founded a factory producing pocket watches in the Silesian town Lähn (today’s: Wlen in Poland) supported by grants from the Prussian government. In 1869 the company relocated to Silberberg/Silesia (today‘s Srebrna Góra) and the production range was extended. Albert Eppner became a partner and automated production began to include pocket watches in four quality standards. However, the range also included pendulum and church clocks as well as controllers. The company existed in Silberberg/Silesia until 1945. Eppner pocket watches have a very distinctive calibre and are today among the most highly sought-after collector’s pieces. Eduard Eppner died in Silberberg on July 2 in 1887.
