This marine chronometer was used in the Royal Navy from its original selling day on October 20, 1875 until March 6, 1914. In 1893 it was moved from the Colaba observatory (Bombay, India) to HMS Vestal, after which it was stationed in Hong Kong, Bombay and Malta. In 1920 the chronometer was moved to HMS Chatham, before being given to the New Zealand government in 1921. In 1941 it was delivered to Singapore and in 1943 to Colaba (Bombay), before it was eventually sold in 1965.
