The Cosmograph Daytona is a legend. The powerful, masculine case as well as the classic sportive style made sure this timepiece gained cult status among chronographs. Models 6263 (with acrylic bezel) and 6265 (with metal bezel) came on the market in 1971 and were upgrades of model 6240, the first Cosmograph Daytona with screw pushers. Presumably no more than 100 pieces per year were produced in yellow gold, which means only a very limited total number of pieces was created in the 16 year timespan in which this model existed.
This yellow gold Daytona 6263 with black dial and cream subdials is in exceptional condition.
It was made in 1985 and was delivered to Florence/Italy, which is evident from the attached original punched certificate with Rolex country code 200, which was used for Italy in the 1980s (from the 1990s onwards, the country code 200 was used for the first sale in Greece).
The riveted "Oyster" gold bracelet has developed a beautiful patina as well as a rare gold oxide over the years, indicating that the watch has not been worn very often. The oxide layer can be removed with a simple polish but is highly prized by most collectors. The dial has slightly darkened luminous dots and hands, and the totalizers have taken on an exciting champagne hue. A rare opportunity for the discerning collector.
