The Dutch clockmaker Frederik Louis Dupuis was born in 1738 or 1739 in Yverdon, then in the canton of Bern. He probably came from a Huguenot family that fled to Switzerland. Dupuis worked in Amsterdam around 1780, supplying the Dutch East India Company (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie) with clocks accurate enough to be used for tracking at sea. He used the method of Cornelis Douwes (1712-1773). The Dutch East India Company ordered a total of 73 ship's clocks with centre seconds for determining longitude by sea.
Frederik Louis Dupuis died on June 12, 1808.
The Museum Zaanse Tijd owns a clock by Frederik Louis Dupuis and in Twickel Castle there are two large sundials by him.
