The silver Champlevé dial has retrograde Roman hours for night and day. In the upper half of the centre is a semi-circular opening showing the phases of the sun with an engraved gold sun on a silver disc or the moon phases with an engraved silver moon and stars on a black enamelled disc, which revolves once every 24 hours. The lower half of the centre shows Apollo in high relief with his cithara in the midst of finely engraved sunrays and clouds.
