In 1953, on the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary, Tissot introduced the Navigator World Time. At the touch of a button, this innovative world time watch makes it possible to read all 24 time zones in the world, with the help of the 24 city names written in large letters, from Cairo to Mauritius to Geneva. With its modern size of 36 mm, it is a very attractive watch with a clear and stylish dial that still has its appeal today and has been reissued in a re-edition for Tissot's 160th anniversary.
The beautiful dial is in excellent condition. The applied Arabic numerals for the 24 hours and the gold arrow indexes stand out clearly against the silvered background. In the centre is a rotating disc with the names of the cities representing the 24 time zones in blue and a small red symbol for the international date line.
The watch is powered by an oscillating weight winding movement, calibre 28.5N-21T and is very similar in design, construction and finish to Omega's early oscillating weight winding movements. The calibre 28.5-N21 is based on Tissot's first automatic calibre 28.1, which was launched in 1944, and has an additional pusher that can be used to set the local time.
