The 'Sea-Dweller Deepsea James Cameron' is a tribute to diving enthusiast James Cameron, director of the movie Titanic, who in 2012 made a solo dive to the earth deepest point, the 11 kilometres deep in the Mariana Trench. The deep sea dive is symbolised by the colour on the dial blending from a clear sparkling blue to a fathomless black. The lime green colour of the Deepsea logo, move to the bottom half of the dial, represents the colour of Cameron's diving boat Deepsea Challenger.
The long afterglow of the large luminous indexes and hands guarantee easy readability in the dark. A water resistance level of up to 3,900 metres and a unidirectional bezel with 60 minute division make the Rolex Deepsea an ultra-resistant diver's watch. A patent was filed for the the novel "ring lock system" which distributes the pressure under water. The curved sapphire crystal sits on an inner compression ring made of steel which in combination with the case back and its supporting ring takes the majority of pressure off the surrounding case.
