This is the classic version of the Atmos clock, housed in a gilt case with slanted corners. The round white dial features four applied gilt Arabic numerals and eight applied gilt indexes. The Atmos VIII is a direct successor of the models III, IV and VI.
The Atmos (for atmospheric clock) takes its energy from from the expansion and contraction of a capsule filled with ethyl chloride gas that responds to changes in temperature and barometric pressure. The produced energy winds the mainspring. According to the makers of the clock, a temperature difference of 1 Kelvin creates a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.
