This hunting case watch was created by Jules Frédéric Urban Jürgensen (1837-1894), the oldest son of Jules Jürgensen, who trained in watchmaking together with his youngest brother Jacques Alfred Jürgensen (1842-1912). The brothers continued his father's business trading as Jules Jürgensen, as both of them were exceptionally skilled watchmakers. Urban Jürgensen was based in Le Locle; he was politically active and held a number of public offices. He also owned a sizable farm. On March 17, 1884, he was made a knight of the legion of honour.
