Glashütte OriginalSenator Meissen Tourbillon
A heavy wristwatch in mint condition, with flying tourbillon and hand-painted "Meissen" porcelain dial - with original box, certificate, operating instructions, setting pin, booklets and original sales tag
Sold
This highly unusual timepiece is a result from the cooperation of two renowned Saxon manufactories – the Meissen porcelain manufactory and the watch- and clock manufactory Glashütte Original – and unites two of the most remarkable Saxon inventions: Meissen porcelain and the flying tourbillon. As we all know, the latter was the brainchild of Alfred Helwig, who worked as a teacher at the German watch- and clockmaking school in Glashütte.
A particular challenge in the creation of this masterpiece was the milling of the circular cut-out for the flying tourbillon on the 0.8 mm thin porcelain dial – a challenge that could only be met by falling back on experience accumulated in Meissen over generations. Keeping in with tradition, the dial features Roman hours as well as the Glashütte Original logo and the Meissen crossed swords, which have been hand-painted painstakingly on the white dial.
The "Senator Meissen Tourbillon" has a 40 mm rose gold case with a sapphire caseback that reveals the automatic manufacture calibre 94-11. The watch has a 48 hour power reserve.
