The present timepiece, reference 3473 is simply breathtaking in its combination of elegance, condition and rarity. The classically shaped 18-carat yellow gold case has the traditional round shape and is the only Patek Philippe wristwatch with a fluted bezel, which is why it was nicknamed the "Coin Edge". Reference 3473 came onto the market in 1962 and was only produced in very small numbers and exclusively in yellow gold for about three years. As far as we know, only about 100 pieces were produced in total, of which only about five watches have been offered at international auctions in recent years.
This watch is illustrated and described in: J. Michael Mehltretter "Die Noblen aus der Schweiz", Ulm 2006, p. 159, ill. p. 150 and in J. Michael Mehltretter "Armbanduhren, Technik, Funktion und Bewertung", 2nd corrected edition, Stuttgart 2022, p. 197.
