Patek PhilippeCalatrava
An elegant, rare vintage Geneva wristwatch with auxiliary seconds - sold on January 31st, 1963 - with Patek Philippe extract from the archives
Sold
In 1960, Patek Philippe launched the new Calatrava reference 3433 with stepped bezel, screw back and self-winding movement, replacing the previous Calatrava reference 2551. Only about 30 examples in yellow gold are known to exist on the market, as reference 3433 was only in production for 6 years. The present timepiece is one of the early examples and is fitted with the original Patek Philippe crown with the embossed "PP" on the side, while the later examples bear the Calatrava cross.
The timepiece is in outstanding condition with a beautifully shimmering silvery, flawless dial and perfectly preserved gold case.
The present watch is described and illustrated in: J. Michael Mehltretter "Armbanduhren, Technik, Funktion und Bewertung", 2nd corrected edition, Stuttgart 2022, p. 190f.
