This beautiful verge pocket watch of exceptional quality is painted on the back with a gallant scene in a rural idyll. The background has a radial engine-turned pattern and cobalt blue enamelling. The scene is framed by a delicate border. Pendant, bow and bezel on the front are decorated with blue, white and gold champlevé enamel with radiant blue paillons.
The Dutertre family was an important watch and clock making family in Paris in the 18th century. One member was Jean Baptiste Dutertre, who invented the Dutertre escapement for pendulum clocks, a recoil escapement used for double pendulum clocks.
