The XX Shooting Contest
From July 3 to 10, 1904, there was the largest shooting spectacle ever seen in Bingen. It was the XX Association Shooting of the "Badischer Landesschützen-Verein" and the "Pfälzischer und Mittelrheinischer Schützenbund", under the protectorate of His Royal Highness, the Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig von Hessen und bei Rhein.
The shooters came from Strasbourg (at that time German again) and Berlin, from Munich and Cologne. The cups and prizes were - according to today's purchasing power - immensely valuable. It is reported of more than 700 gold gulden.
