The rim of the underpainted tortoiseshell outer case is painted with delicate moss plants in the manner of moss agate. In the centre, in a gold-framed mandorla, a young lady leans casually against a lidded vase in a mountainous landscape, a lamb lying at her feet.

The records of Brian Loomes show that Samuel Toulmin was mentioned as a watchmaker in London before 1757 up to 1783.
