George C. Shreve & Co. was a well-known dealer in jewelry and watches based in San Francisco. Founded in 1894 by George Rodman and Albert J. Lewis, Shreve & Co. was the oldest mercantile establishment in San Francisco. Just one month before the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, Shreve & Co. opened its new eleven-story building at "Post and Grant." Built with the latest engineering technologies of its time, it was one of only a few buildings to survive the April 18 earthquake. The company still exists today with offices in San Franciso and Palo Alto.
