The fine dial with the unusual signature arrangement finds its counterpart in the symmetrical construction of the fully chatonned movement. Beneath the plate with the flat steel elements are two chain/fusee arrangements that keep the balance in motion under the exceptionally short cock. This watch is a fine example of English watchmaking from the firm of James Hoddell (1813-1889), founded in Coventry before 1840 and continued by his son Cope Hoddell after his death.
