The two bezels on front and back are made of opaque light blue and translucent cobalt blue rectangles of champlevé enamel with gold decoration. The reverse is decorated with a translucent cobalt blue enamelled medallion over an engine-turned ground with a centred monogram "IG" of gold paillons, bordered by a delicate gold paillon vine branch.
According to Tardy's "Dictionnaire des Horlogers Francais", watchmaker Allier is recorded in Paris in the Rue St-Antoine in the period 1789-1840. He worked for the famous "Horloger méchanicien du Roi et de la Marine" Ferdinand Berthoud.
