Swiss-born Justin Vulliamy (1712-1797) was renowned in London as an excellent watchmaker. He went into partnership with Benjamin Gray, watchmaker for King George II, in 1730. He married Gray's daughter Mary and worked with him in his manufactory in London's Pall Mall. After Gray's death in 1764, Vulliamy took over the family business and mainly made precision pendulum clocks.
His son Benjamin Vulliamy (1747-1811) also became a watchmaker and took over the technical management of the manufactory Vulliamy & Sons from 1775.
