Jean-Aimé Jacob was born in 1793 in Sisteron and started training in Paris in 1813, among others with Pierre Louis Berthoud and Jean François Henri Motel, and eventually in the workshop of Breguet. After 1840 he established his own workshop in Saint-Nicolas d'Aliermont. Jacob died in 1871 in Dieppe.
