Evan Roberts (1836-1918) was a Welsh watchmaker and watch dealer who became wealthy by selling mainly American Waltham watches worldwide and built up a significant collection of his own, some of which was displayed at the 1893 Chicago World Exposition. Already towards the end of the 19th century there were several publications in which the collection was presented. After his death he left large parts of it to the Victoria & Albert Museum and the London Science Museum, others went to the National Museum of Wales. The Dictionary of Welsh Biography calls Evan Roberts 'the greatest horological collector of all'.
