According to the serial number, the movement of the present watch, reference 145.022, dates from the mid-1970s. Presumably, in the course of a revision, the existing case back was fitted with the younger reference 145.0022 used from 1981 onwards.
The Speedmaster reference 145.022 was an extremely long-lived reference and was produced between 1968 and 1981. At the same time, Omega began to use the 145.0022 as a new reference number.
Reference 145.022 is considered a turning point in the continuous development of the Speedmaster and was the first Speedmaster model to be equipped with the famous calibre 861, a cam-operated movement that was lighter and could be produced in greater numbers than its predecessor, the calibre 321 with a ratchet wheel. Reference 145.022 can be divided into two categories: before and after the moon landing.
The case shows some slight surface scratching as is appropriate for its age and the indexes have acquired a cream-coloured hue, which gives the watch a new, attractive beauty.
