The fact that the balance of this marine chronometer is equipped with an auxiliary compensation according to Kullberg, as well as the lavishly brass-decorated chronometer case, testify to the high standards Hermann Diedrich set for his work. Like his father Karl Johannes, who was educated at the German Watchmaking School, Hermann Diedrich also made ship's chronometers, which he also submitted to chronometer examinations; for the winter of 1894/95, for example, four of his instruments are listed in the 18th examination of the Deutsche Seewarte Hamburg, successfully passing alongside such famous names as Bröcking and Kittel.
