The barometer display is divided into inches (21-31) and the altimeter into feet, adjustable via the crown. Its scale ranges from zero to 10,000. There is also a compass in the jumping lid.


Alfred Clark was based in Old Bond Street in London. Clark was held in high esteem by the royal family. He supplied them with numerous hospitality gifts for their trips abroad, including for the trip to Australia of the then Duke and Duchess of York, later George V and Mary, in 1901.
