The front lid of this very ornamental silver enamel hunter watch is decorated with the polychrome enamel portrait of a lady in a low-cut dress wearing a powder wig, the back lid shows a rectangular medallion of a knitting elderly lady in a rocking chair tending children; both with translucent red enamel over an engine-turned background. The borders on front and back are studded with half pearls; the band is ornamented with red champlevé enamelled flowers.

Sandoz, together with his partners, founded the Tavannes Watch Company in 1891. The company was very successful and soon exported to several countries, including Canada, Russia, the United States and the Far East.
