Richard Nagel (1863-1913) had studied farming and was the steward of a large estate in Chelchen near Duneyken in the county of Treuburg in East Prussia. He married the daughter of the estate owner Friedrich Wilhelm Seydel, who was a well-known figure in East Prussia; Seydel devoted himself to communal issues and eventually became a member of the council in Berlin.
