The 1970s were a strong decade for the development of sports watches. Extravagant style elements, strong colours and sophisticated features were the standard. The Omega Flightmaster, however, stands out from among its peers – it is a large timepiece that manages to be "cool" and complicated at the same time, a classic icon from days past, when air travel was an adventure and pilots were heroes.
To continue the success of the Speedmaster’s spectacular missions, Omega developed a watch specially tailored to the requirements of pilots and introduced the Flightmaster, a manual-wind, dual time chronograph in 1969. Most of the watches came in steel cases, with only 200 examples in 18k gold; 20 of those were fitted with a solid, 18k gold bracelet such as this one. The first watch from the "De Luxe" Flightmaster series with gold bracelet was sold to King Hussein of Jordania.
This "Flightmaster GOLD" is a particularly interesting model in excellent overall condition; watches such as this hardly ever appear on the market. It was finished on September 7, 1971 to be delivered to Iran.
