Heuer, Swiss, "Skipper Automatic Chronograph", Case No. 375962, Ref. 15640/11630, Cal. 15, 42,5 x 47 mm, circa 1978
An extremely rare, vintage automatic "Yachting" chronograph with date, 15-minute regatta countdown timer and original Heuer steel bracelet - early second execution and therefore one of the rarest skipper models
Case: steel, screw back, crown on the left, bidirectional rotating black bezel with 60 minutes and 12 hours division, original Heuer steel bracelet, bracelet length 140 mm, total length 180 mm. Dial: black.
The Skipper reference 15640 early second execution model in an Autavia case (ref. 11630) only very seldom appears on the market. It has a black dial, a distinctive tri-colour regatta countdown timer with white, blue and red 5-minute segments and white hands and hour markers. While the first Skipper models were based on the Carrera, the models of the 1970s were all based on the larger Autavia. The watch features a black bidirectional MH bezel with 60-minute / 12-hour divisions.
The Skipper was developed especially for yachting and is one of the most coveted vintage Heuer models today. As it was only rarely used for sporting events, production numbers were small, which explains why this timepiece hardly ever appears on the market. This chronograph is in excellent condition with only minimal signs of age.
