The "Rotonde de Cartier Astrotourbillon Skeleton" is the embodiment of Cartier’s novel interpretation of classic tourbillon design. For the first time, this complication is not restricted to its function in improved timekeeping and the reduction of gravity but is fully integrated in the aesthetic design of the watch. The central seconds hand of the Astrotourbillon is actually the arrow-shaped tourbillon carriage, which holds the balance in its centre and orbits the dial once per minute. To highlight this complication and establish a sense of spatial depth, the design features skeletonized bridges forming the oversized Roman numerals XII and VI that are typical for Cartier.
