An ornamental quarter hour repeating carriage clock with quarter hour / hour strike and alarm
Case: gilt, facet glazed sides and top. Dial: silvered. Movm.: rectangular brass full-plate movement, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, 1 hammer / 1 rear bell for alarm, 3 barrels, fine platform with lateral lever escapement, blued helical balance spring, chronometer compensation balance with 4 weights and 2 screws.
The case is elaborately decorated with engraved, gilt brass tendrils. The most remarkable feature of this timepiece is the unusual reverse side of the movement with two blued gongs that imitate the shape of the movement in that they are rectangular instead of coiled as usual.
According to Tardy, Faton was a nephew of Breguet and produced escapements for him circa 1812.
