Cartier, Swiss, "Santos 100", Case No. 737527CE, Ref. 2656, 38 x 51 mm, circa 2005
A large automatic bi-color wristwatch with original box, Cartier certificate and operating instructions
Case: steel/18k gold, screwed on back, winding crown set with a faceted sapphire, steel/18k gold Cartier deployant clasp. Dial: silvered.
Louis Cartier created the "Santos" model in 1904 for his friend Alberto Santos-Dumont, the famous aviator; Santos wanted a timepiece he could wear on his wrist when in the air, so he did not have to use his pocket watch.
Cartier celebrated their 100 year anniversary with the introduction of the "Santos 100", a new, larger version of the classic model. This piece is made of stainless steel and 18K gold. The dial features luminous sword hands, Roman hours and the secret Cartier signature at 7 o’clock.
