Lot 187

A collection of 2 aviator's wristwatches and an aircraft deck watch
Seikosha "Tensoku-Doke", Japan, Case No. 51142, 48 mm, circa 1940
A rare, oversized and historically interesting pilot's wristwatch of the Japanese Air Force with original leather strap
Case: nickel-plated, push back, reeded ball crown, original aviator's leather strap with original buckle. Dial: black.
Seikōsha was a branch of the Japanese company Seiko, which – among other instruments – produced timers, clocks and printers. The manufacturing companies of the Seiko group emerged from Seikōsha.
This so-called "Tensoku-Dokei" (heavenly watch) was designed as a pilots’ watch and is also known as "Kamikaze", because it was originally worn by the kamikaze pilots in World War II. The Japanese Navy also used these timepieces for navigation. Only very few of the watches have survived.
